The Walking Dead: The Ride, Indoor steel roller coaster in Thorpe Park, England
The Walking Dead: The Ride is an indoor steel roller coaster at Thorpe Park that runs along a track of roughly 400 meters through dark rooms. The layout includes tight curves, descending passages, and a continuous sound system that plays throughout the entire ride.
The facility opened in 1996 under the name X:\ No Way Out as a backwards-running coaster with a cyberpunk design. In 2018 it received its current makeover with a zombie theme based on the television series of the same name.
The ride draws on scenes from the television series by using sound effects, visual projections, and occasionally actors in zombie costumes. These elements heighten the mood as guests move through the dark corridors.
Visitors need a minimum height of 1.4 meters and three functional limbs to ride. The coaster uses strobe lighting and loud sounds during the journey.
At several points along the track the coaster suddenly brakes and water mist flows into the car. These effects create brief moments when passengers can lose their sense of direction.
