Saw – The Ride, Steel roller coaster in Thorpe Park, UK
Saw – The Ride is a steel roller coaster in Thorpe Park that runs over 720 meters with multiple inversions, including a drop at 100 degrees and speeds reaching 88 kilometers per hour (55 miles per hour). Two trains alternate on the track, each carrying several carts that hold four riders per cart.
The ride opened in 2009 as a Gerstlauer Eurofighter model and held the record at that time for the steepest descent on any roller coaster in the world. It has since drawn visitors who seek strong sensations and challenges.
The ride takes its name from a horror film and passes through several rooms where puppets and mechanical parts recall scenes from the movie. A soundtrack plays throughout the experience while dim lighting and fog accompany each section.
Visitors must have full upper body strength as safety systems require specific physical conditions. Waiting times can grow longer during weekends and school holidays.
The first section climbs straight up before the cart plunges over 100 feet through complete darkness. During this phase, riders cannot see the track ahead of them.
