Gir Interpretation Zone
The Gir Interpretation Zone, also called Devalia Safari Park, is a zoo within the Gir National Park in India where visitors observe animals in a fenced area. The zone displays multiple habitats featuring Asiatic Lions, Indian Leopards, spotted deer, wild boars, and numerous bird species across approximately four square kilometers.
The zone was established to manage visitor numbers in the main park and bring tourists closer to the wildlife of Gir. It developed from the need to reduce overcrowding in the larger park while offering visitors a secure location to observe animals.
The zone is also known as Devalia, named after its location, and serves as a learning space where visitors encounter the Asiatic Lions that exist nowhere else in the wild. This connection to the lions shapes how people think about wildlife protection in this region.
Visitors should arrive in early morning or late afternoon when animals are most active. Tours are available by bus or jeep lasting about 30 to 50 minutes, with permits required and online booking being the best option to reserve in advance.
The zone originally featured lion shows where visitors could see the big cats up close, but these were discontinued because they were difficult to manage and disturbed the animals. Today visitors can only spot lions through bus or jeep safaris.
