Kamadgiri chitrakoot
Kamadgiri is a small hill in the town of Chitrakoot, known as a sacred site in Hinduism. The hill has multiple temples and shrines scattered across its slopes, while the main temple sits at the summit with simple stone steps and a small courtyard.
The hill has long been an important center of religious worship, with a history stretching back to ancient times. The walking paths around the hill were built long ago by local kings from the Bundelkhand region and have been used by generations of pilgrims.
The hill is tied to the story of Rama and Sita, who legend says spent twelve years here in exile. Local pilgrims walk around the entire hill as a spiritual practice to seek blessings and find inner peace.
The hill is best visited during the cooler winter months, as summer heat can be very intense. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and use sun protection, and it is helpful to climb early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
Walking around the hill takes about three to four hours and many pilgrims do it barefoot, believing this brings good fortune and cleanses bad karma. This hours-long walk forms the heart of the spiritual practice for many visitors.
