The Inunaki tunnel is an abandoned tunnel near the Inunaki reservoir in Miyawaka, Fukuoka prefecture, Japan. The entrance is now sealed with a concrete wall, making the interior inaccessible to visitors.
The tunnel opened in 1949 and was first used as a transport and drainage route in the area. A new tunnel was built in the mid-1970s, after which this one fell out of use.
The old Inunaki tunnel is widely known in Japan as one of the country's most haunted places. Local stories tell of the ghosts of villagers from a nearby abandoned settlement, and people still come from across Fukuoka to experience the stories firsthand.
The tunnel sits near the Inunaki dam in Miyawaka, and a marked trail starting from the dam parking area leads toward it. Since the tunnel entrance is sealed, the visit mainly involves a walk through the forested surroundings and a look at the exterior.
The tunnel was used as a filming location for the 2019 Japanese horror film Howling Village, which brought it attention well beyond the local area. This led to a noticeable rise in visitors wanting to see the site for themselves.
