Takehara Kofun

Takehara Kofun is a circular burial mound measuring about 17.5 meters across, located in Miyawaka, Japan. Inside, a stone chamber contains multiple rooms linked by horizontal passages.

The burial mound dates to the late 6th century and was discovered in 1956. It gained national historic site status shortly after its discovery.

The walls display red and black images of horses, dragons, mythical birds, and human figures that visitors can see today. These scenes reveal what people valued and believed in during that era.

Visitors can view the burial chamber, though access to interior spaces may vary depending on conditions. Wearing sturdy shoes is helpful since the ground around the mound can be uneven.

Excavations revealed objects tied to horsemanship and riding equipment. This suggests the person buried here held high status and likely controlled important trade routes or cavalry forces.
