Old Ito Den-emon Residence

The residence combines Japanese architectural styles with seven structures, including the main building, a gate house, storage buildings, and servant quarters surrounding garden areas.

Built in 1906 for coal mining magnate Ito Den-emon, the mansion underwent expansions until the early Showa period, representing the economic power of coal industry leaders.

The interior design merges traditional Shoin and Sukiya styles with Western elements, featuring rooms arranged to provide optimal views of the surrounding gardens.

The mansion opens daily except Wednesdays from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with admission fees of 310 yen for adults and 100 yen for children under 15.

The residence gained recognition as the home of poet Yanagihara Byakuren, who lived there for ten years as Den-emon's wife before their separation.
