Lopez Confectionery, Confectionery store in Royan, France
Confiserie Lopez is a confectionery store in the center of Royan, France, selling handmade candies, ice creams, and sorbets. The shop offers over 55 flavors of ice cream and a range of traditional candies produced on site in their own laboratory.
The Lopez family started making confections in Cognac in 1924, and after several generations moved along the Atlantic coast, eventually settling in Royan. Manuel Lopez took over the business in 1989, and his son Maxime now runs it, keeping the original recipes in use.
Confiserie Lopez is known for its bois cassé, a crispy caramel candy from the Charente region made since 1904. Inside the shop, colorful displays show niniches, berlingots, and guimauves, many wrapped in bright paper.
The shop is located in the center of Royan and stays open throughout the year, making it accessible outside the busy tourist season. A second family-run location can be found in the Pontaillac neighborhood.
The confectionery has published a recipe book that makes the shop's production methods accessible to home cooks. The business also holds official recognition as a heritage company, meaning its craft is considered a protected local tradition.
