Narrowest Street In The World, Alley and tourist attraction in Reutlingen, Germany
The Spreuerhofstraße is an alley in the center of Reutlingen, Germany, officially registered as the narrowest street in the world. At its tightest point, the walls are just about 12 inches (31 cm) apart, widening to roughly 20 inches (50 cm) at the broadest section.
The alley was built in 1727, one year after a fire destroyed a large part of Reutlingen. When the neighborhood was rebuilt, this narrow gap was left between two new buildings and has remained ever since.
The alley is freely accessible at any time and can be walked through in just a few seconds. Visitors with broader shoulders or large bags should keep in mind that the tightest section leaves very little room to move.
The Spreuerhofstraße is officially listed as number 77 in Reutlingen's city register, giving it the same legal status as any other street in town. This means a passage that most people can barely squeeze through is formally treated like a regular public road.
