Jardin Retrouvé, Public garden with garden pavilion in Ville Basse Sud-Ouest, Honfleur, France
Jardin Retrouvé is a small public garden in the Ville Basse Sud-Ouest neighborhood of Honfleur, featuring winding paths, a central pond, a waterfall, a stone kiosk, and a well. The layout mixes a formal French-style design with a more natural English-style arrangement, giving the space a varied feel as you walk through it.
Jardin Retrouvé was opened in 1996 on the grounds of a former private garden that had fallen out of use over time. The filmmaker Yves Robert was chosen as its godfather at the opening, a gesture that reflected the town's wish to mark the occasion with a cultural figure.
The garden contains a bust of Eugène Boudin, a painter born in Honfleur who is often linked to the origins of Impressionism. Nearby, a small sculpture of a dog named Katchanka adds a playful touch that many visitors walk past without noticing.
The garden is easy to reach on foot from the main streets of Honfleur and fits naturally into a walk around the town. It can be visited at any time of year, though spring and summer bring the most color to the plants and flowerbeds.
The central pond was designed so that children can safely play in the water, which is unusual for a formal town garden of this kind. This makes it one of the few green spaces in Honfleur where families with young children have a dedicated spot to enjoy.
