Place Henri Ansquer, Pedestrian square in Recouvrance, Brest, France

Place Henri Ansquer is a pedestrian square in the Recouvrance neighborhood of Brest, France. It sits near the Recouvrance bridge and features a large bronze sculpture by artist Jérôme Durand at its center.

The square was named after Henri Ansquer, a singer and composer from Brest. It was redesigned and opened to the public in June 2016, as part of a larger project to improve the area around the Recouvrance bridge.

The sculpture on the square shows Fanny de Laninon reaching out to stop Jean Quéméneur from falling into the water. The scene is so expressive that drivers passing nearby often slow down to look at it.

The square is easy to reach on foot and sits right next to the Recouvrance bridge, so it fits naturally into a walk through the neighborhood. From there, Tour Tanguy and the old port are both within easy walking distance.

The bronze sculpture stands about 10 feet (3 meters) tall and is placed so that it can be seen clearly from the nearby bridge. The square opened on June 21, 2016, the day of the Fête de la Musique in France, which also echoes the musical connection behind Henri Ansquer's name.
