Tre Cavalli, Statue in Maó, Spain
Tre Cavalli is a metal sculpture in the Plaça del Carme in Maó, Menorca, Spain, created by Swiss artist Nag Arnoldi. It depicts three horses in motion, their forms built from assembled metal pieces that reveal the muscles and legs of the animals.
The sculpture was first placed temporarily in the Plaça de la Constitució before a public vote decided its permanent location. The majority chose the Plaça del Carme, where it has remained ever since.
The sculpture sits in the Plaça del Carme, a square in the center of Maó that residents use every day. The metal horses stand in clear contrast to the older buildings around them, drawing passersby to stop and look.
The sculpture stands outdoors and can be approached freely at any time from different angles. Walking around it allows you to see how the metal pieces fit together and to notice the details of the horse forms up close.
The artist Nag Arnoldi insisted that the sculpture should not be moved for festivals or events, which was one of the main reasons a public vote was organized to find it a fixed home. Over time, exposure to the weather gives the metal surface a natural patina that slowly changes its appearance.
