Loch Laich, Sea inlet in Argyll and Bute, Scotland

Loch Laich is a small sea inlet in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, opening into the larger Loch Linnhe along the west coast. Low hills frame the shore on all sides, and a handful of stone cottages sit close to the water's edge.

The area around Loch Laich has been settled since early medieval times, when local clans controlled the coastal routes along Loch Linnhe. Castle Stalker was built on a small island in the inlet during the 16th century and served as a stronghold for those clans.

Loch Laich is perhaps best known as the setting for Castle Stalker, a small tower house sitting on a tiny island just offshore. Visitors often walk the shoreline to take in the view of the castle rising straight from the water.

The shoreline of Loch Laich is easy to reach on foot from the small road that runs along the coast. Visiting at low tide gives the clearest views across the water, including toward Castle Stalker.

Loch Laich served as a filming location for the 1975 comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, with Castle Stalker appearing in one of the film's final scenes. Visitors who know the film often recognize the outline of the tower the moment they reach the shore.
