Café Léa, Café in the 5th arrondissement, Paris, France

Café Léa is a small café on Rue Claude Bernard in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, close to the Mouffetard neighborhood. Outside, white-tiled walls and wooden tables catch the eye, while inside there are red leather banquettes and soft lighting.

The Mouffetard neighborhood is one of the oldest parts of Paris and was a busy market area for centuries. Rue Claude Bernard sits right in the middle of this network of old lanes and buildings that have shaped the district since the Middle Ages.

Café Léa sits on Rue Claude Bernard, a street frequented by students and local workers who stop in for a coffee between two errands. The red leather benches and vintage lighting give the room a retro feel that recalls Paris in the 1950s.

The café is easy to reach on foot, as the Censier-Daubenton metro station on line 7 is nearby. It works well for a midday or afternoon visit, since it does not stay open late in the evening.

The café became known mainly by word of mouth and has no flashy signage aimed at drawing in tourists. The croissants and other baked goods are made fresh in-house each day, which is not something you find at every café in this part of Paris.
