Bakery of the Basilica, Bakery in Saint-Denis, France
The Boulangerie de la Basilique is a bakery in Saint-Denis, located close to the Basilique metro station. The shop has a bright, tidy look with wooden shelves and tiled counters displaying bread, croissants, pain au chocolat, and fruit-shaped pastries.
The bakery opened in mid-July and is a recent addition to the heart of Saint-Denis. Its founder, Nilogoh Coulibaly, trained at the hotel Martinez in Cannes and later worked at Fouquet's, the George V, and Ladurée before opening this shop.
The bakery takes its name from the nearby basilica, which gives the neighborhood its identity. Many visitors to the church stop here on their way out to pick up a pastry or a fresh baguette.
The bakery opens early in the morning and closes in the late evening on both weekdays and weekends, making it easy to visit at different times of day. Arriving early gives you the best choice of freshly baked goods before they sell out.
Some of the pastries here are shaped to look exactly like real fruit, such as apples or pears, but are entirely edible and made by hand on site. The owner also develops his own chocolate recipes, sourcing high-quality ingredients and fresh nuts that he works with directly in the shop.
