Hall of the Legion of Honor, Multi-purpose hall in Saint-Denis, France
The Salle de la Légion d'honneur is a multi-purpose hall in the center of Saint-Denis, north of Paris, on a street that shares its name, near the basilica. The hall has a raised stage, a wooden floor, and rows of seating, making it a space used for theater, concerts, and other live events.
The Salle de la Légion d'honneur stands on grounds that were originally a medieval abbey, largely rebuilt during the 18th century. In 1809, Napoleon turned the site into a school for the Legion of Honor, and the hall itself was added in the 19th century at the far end of the garden.
The hall is in the center of Saint-Denis, close to the basilica, and easy to reach by metro. It is worth checking in advance whether an event is scheduled, as the space is not open to the public at all times.
The hall is the only 19th-century addition to a complex made up almost entirely of 17th and 18th-century buildings. It was built specifically as a celebration hall at the end of the abbey garden, which sets it apart from the older structures around it.
