Park named after Maria Konopnicka, Park in Karb, Bytom, Poland
Parc nommé d'après Maria Konopnicka is a small park in the Karb district of Bytom, Poland. It is laid out with narrow winding paths, rows of tall mature trees, benches and tables, and a playground for children.
The park was created as a green space for workers and residents of what was once an industrial neighborhood. It was modernized in 2017, and the bust of Maria Konopnicka was added in 2018.
The park takes its name from Maria Konopnicka, a Polish writer and poet from the 19th century. A small bust placed near the center of the park honors her, and visitors often stop there during a walk.
The park sits between Konstytucji and Świętej Elżbiety streets, making it easy to find on foot. In winter, a small sledding slope attracts families with children, so expect more visitors on snowy days.
The rows of trees in the park follow a layout once used for drinking gardens in Upper Silesia, where factory owners set up outdoor tables for workers to rest between shifts. This type of arrangement was common in the region at the turn of the 20th century.
