Bytom

Bytom is a city in Silesian Voivodeship, Poland, where Gothic churches, Baroque facades and modernist housing blocks come together. The built environment spreads across twelve administrative districts with different character.

A document from 1254 mentions the foundation of the settlement, which later grew into a trading post. Coal extraction shaped development from the 19th century onward and changed the face of the town fundamentally.
