Bolko Loft mh1, Industrial loft building in Bytom, Poland.
Bolko Loft mh1 is a converted industrial building in Bytom featuring eight concrete columns supporting a roughly 180 square meter residential space. Expansive windows flood the interior with natural light and create an open, unobstructed living environment.
Originally a lamp manufacturing facility within the Orzeł Biały Mining and Metallurgical Plant, the structure was transformed into residential space between 2002 and 2003. This conversion marked a shift away from the site's industrial production history.
The name Bolko references a former owner connected to the site's industrial past. The raw materials and open layout visible today reflect how locals connect the space to its manufacturing heritage.
The building is accessible from public pathways in Bytom's former industrial district. Keep in mind that this is a private residence, so visits are typically not possible unless special tours or events are arranged.
Architect Przemo Łukasik of Medusa Group Architects led the redesign and received a 2004 EU Prize nomination for Contemporary Architecture. The building also ranked among Poland's 20 most notable architectural works since 1989 in a national competition.
