The Sentier littoral is a narrow coastal footpath in Le Lavandou, running along the edge of the Mediterranean and connecting small coves, rocky outcrops, and sandy beaches. The path shifts between sections close to the waterline and slightly elevated stretches that open up broader views of the coast.
The path was originally used by local fishermen to move between their boats, the beaches, and the small villages along the shore. Over time it was opened to the public and became part of a wider network of coastal trails along this stretch of the French Mediterranean coast.
Some sections of the path are rocky and uneven, especially between Saint-Clair beach and Fossette beach, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. On warm days, carrying water is helpful, and it is worth being cautious on the rocks since sea spray can make them slippery.
From certain points along the path, the outlines of the islands of Port-Cros and Le Levant are clearly visible on the horizon on a clear day. They look close enough to feel within reach, which surprises many walkers who do not expect to see them so distinctly from the shore.
