Montmorency Falls Park, Nature reserve and protected area in Beauport, Québec, Canada

Montmorency Falls Park is a nature reserve and protected area in Beauport, a borough of Québec City, built around a waterfall that drops roughly 83 meters (272 ft) over a cliff into the St. Lawrence River. The park has walking trails, suspension bridges, viewing platforms, and a cable car that connects the base of the falls to the clifftop above.

Indigenous peoples used this area long before European contact, and French explorers of the 17th century gave the falls their current name. By the late 19th century, the site had become a popular outing destination, and paths and facilities were built to welcome more visitors.

The name "Montmorency" comes from a French noble family that played a central role in the early settlement of Québec. In winter, a large cone of ice forms at the base of the falls, and locals have long used it for sliding and ice climbing.

The park is open year-round, and each season offers a different experience, from spring flooding to winter ice formations around the falls. Most paths are accessible, though some sections are steep, so sturdy footwear is helpful, and warm layers are essential in colder months.

Each winter, the spray from the falls freezes into a large cone of ice at the base, which can reach up to about 30 meters tall. In earlier centuries, this ice cone was used as a sledding hill by local residents, a tradition that gave the falls a playful winter life quite different from the experience visitors have today.
