Bondi to Coogee Walk, Hiking trail in Coogee, Australia
Bondi to Coogee Walk is a coastal hiking trail in eastern Sydney that links several sandy beaches and rocky headlands over about six kilometers. It follows a paved and sometimes stepped path above the ocean, passing small parks, bays, and lookouts with open views of the water.
The route follows old coastal tracks that connected Aboriginal fishing spots long before European settlement. In the twentieth century, local councils improved the path stone by stone to make it a public walkway.
People use the walk as a daily exercise loop, often stopping at ocean pools or grass parks along the way. On weekends, the path fills with families, joggers, and groups sharing picnics near the beaches.
Plan for a few hours because the route has many stops and some steep staircases around the southern bays. Wear sturdy shoes and carry water, as the surface changes from paved footpath to uneven rock and sand.
Near the northern end, you can look down from Marks Park and see a flat rock platform with faint carvings of fish and sea creatures left thousands of years ago. Many walkers step past it without noticing the shallow grooves worn into the sandstone.
