Farm Tomita is a flower garden in Nakafurano, Hokkaido, known for its lavender fields alongside more than 80 other flower varieties arranged across around 12 distinct sections. The property also includes small shops, cafes, a dried flower house, a distillery workshop, and a greenhouse.
The farm was founded by Tadao Tomita, who began growing lavender to supply the domestic perfume industry at a time when few farms in Japan cultivated it. As tourism in Hokkaido grew over the following decades, the farm gradually shifted its focus toward welcoming visitors.
The farm is especially known for its summer lavender, which draws visitors who walk slowly through the purple rows and stop often to take photos. The scent of the fields is strong enough to notice from a distance, and many people say it is what they remember most after leaving.
The farm is within walking distance of JR Lavender Field Station, making it easy to reach without a car. Opening hours change by season, so checking current times before the visit is a good idea.
In 2021, the farm opened a room called Hanabito House where visitors can compare five different lavender oil scents side by side, all from the same plant family. The differences between them are more noticeable than most people expect.
