Byeonsanbando National Park, National park on the southwestern coast of South Korea, Buan County

Byeonsanbando National Park is a national park on the southwestern coast of South Korea, in Buan County. It is the country's only park combining a mountain area and a coastline, split into two main sections known as Outer Byeonsan along the coast and Inner Byeonsan in the forested hills inland.

Byeonsanbando was designated a national park in 1988, making it one of Korea's newer protected areas. Before that, the land was used for farming and fishing by local communities that had lived along this stretch of coast for centuries.

Naesosa Temple sits deep in the forested part of the park and can be visited on foot along shaded paths. Those who wish can take part in a temple stay program, sleeping on the floor and joining the monks' daily routines.

Renting a car is the most practical way to get around, since key spots like the Chaeseokgang cliffs, Jikso Falls, and Naesosa Temple are spread across a large area. Buses do run to the park but follow fixed schedules, so some areas are hard to reach without your own vehicle.

The Chaeseokgang cliffs are made of layers of rock stacked on top of each other, shaped by waves and wind over millions of years to look like rows of large books. These formations are best seen at low tide, when the sea pulls back and lets visitors walk right up to the base of the rocks.
