Suncheon Bay National Garden, National garden in Suncheon, South Korea
Suncheon Bay National Garden is a national garden in Suncheon, on the southern coast of South Korea, and was Korea's first garden to receive that designation. It is divided into an East Garden and a West Garden, with themed sections, a man-made lake, forested paths, and a connection to the nearby Suncheon Bay wetland reserve.
The garden was created for an international garden expo held in Suncheon in 2013. After the event ended, the site stayed open and was officially recognized as Korea's first national garden in 2015.
Inside the garden, a section called the World Garden Zone shows garden styles from countries like Italy, Japan, Turkey, and China. Each area uses different plants and layouts, so walking through it feels like a tour of how people around the world grow and arrange green spaces.
The garden has two main entrances, the East Gate and the West Gate, and first-time visitors often find it easier to start at the West Gate to reach the main sections quickly. Because the grounds are large and walking takes time, an internal shuttle bus runs between the gates and the key areas.
Near one of the garden's entrances stands a bridge built from old cargo containers and covered in tiles showing children's drawings from many countries. It is called the Bridge of Dreams, and it is one of the most photographed spots in the whole garden.
