Songdo Bay Station is a proposed aerial tramway station on the waterfront in Songdo, a coastal neighborhood of Busan, South Korea. The project envisions a multi-story terminal building with a boarding platform at the top and direct views over the bay.
Songdo Beach was one of Busan's most visited seaside spots until the 1980s, when it fell out of favor. Plans to revive the coastal area eventually gave rise to proposals for a cable car line that would offer a new way to see the bay.
The name "Songdo" means "pine island" in Korean, a reference to the forested coastal landscape that once defined this part of Busan. Today the area around the station draws families and day-trippers who come to enjoy the seaside on weekends.
Since this is a proposed project, the station is not yet open to visitors, so it is worth checking the current status before planning a trip. The Songdo waterfront area is easy to reach by local bus from central Busan, and the main attractions are within walking distance of each other.
The planned line is meant to include cabins with a transparent floor, letting passengers look straight down at the sea and rocks below. This type of cabin is still uncommon in South Korea, which sets the project apart from most other cable car lines in the country.
