Igidae Coastal Trail, Coastal trail in Busan, South Korea

The Igidae Coastal Trail is a walking path in southern Busan that runs along rocky cliffs for about 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles). It connects Yongho Byeolbit Park to Yongho Starlight Park, passing over wooden bridges, suspension bridges, and open cliff-edge sections above the sea.

The land along this coast was restricted military territory for decades, which kept much of the shoreline off limits to the public. After the area was released in the late 20th century, the walking path was established, opening this stretch of coast to visitors for the first time.

The trail passes Nongbawi, a rock shaped like a seated figure, traditionally linked to prayers for the safety of ships at sea. Nearby structures once used by haenyeo, the women divers who harvest abalone and sea urchins, are still visible along the coast.

Most visitors walk the full trail in about two and a half hours, usually starting from one end and following the path to the other. Sturdy footwear is a good idea since some sections cross rocky ground or wooden steps that can become slippery after rain.

One section of the trail crosses five suspension bridges in a row, linking different cliff areas and putting the open sea directly underfoot. The rocks along the route are around 80 million years old and form part of the officially designated Busan National Geopark.
