Gwangju Sajik Park, Park in Yangnim-dong, Gwangju, South Korea

Gwangju Sajik Park is a park in the Yangnim-dong neighborhood of Gwangju, South Korea, built on the site of a former state altar. Inside, visitors find walking paths, open lawns, a large sports field, two traditional pavilions, a memorial to police officers, and an observatory that looks out over the city.

The site was once home to a state altar where ceremonies honoring earth deities were held, a practice with deep roots in Korean history. Over time, the ground was turned into a public park, and the restored altar was kept as part of the space.

In spring, the park draws many visitors for its cherry blossoms, and nighttime lighting turns the paths into a popular evening walk. The Yangpajeong and Gwandeokjeong pavilions stand inside the grounds and give a sense of the region's traditional architecture.

The park is open every day at no cost, and its paths are generally easy to walk for visitors of all mobility levels. The observatory gives the best views in clear weather, so an early morning or late afternoon visit tends to work well.

The cherry blossom paths are lit up at night during spring, so visitors can walk among the flowers after dark. This evening setting draws couples and families who come specifically for the nighttime version of the bloom.
