Chateau Kalpak Vineyards, Vineyard in Şarköy, Turkey
Chateau Kalpak Vineyards is a small winery in Şarköy, at the base of the Gallipoli Peninsula, between the Sea of Marmara and the Aegean Sea. The vineyard sits on a gentle slope with gravel and limestone soil, cooled by sea breezes from both sides.
The estate was founded in 1991 by Bülent Kalpaklıoğlu, who left a career in banking after years spent in the United States and Paris. The first vines were planted in 1992, and after more than a decade of preparation, the wines were released in 2013.
The winery is open by appointment only, so it is best to contact them before visiting. On site, a small café with a terrace allows guests to taste wines while looking out over the vines and the sea.
The rows of vines were planted using laser tools to ensure precise alignment on the slope. The estate also produces a very small batch of wine from the local variety Kalecik Karası, with only around 500 bottles made in 2024.
