Rose Valley, Valley near Göreme, Turkey
Zemi Valley is a valley near the town of Göreme in the Cappadocia region of Turkey. It runs between soft tuff rock formations shaped by erosion into irregular towers and hollows, with paths leading through vineyards and orchards.
The caves and underground spaces in the valley were used as early as the Byzantine period, when Christian communities sought shelter in the Cappadocia region. Over the centuries the area passed through different rulers and continued to be inhabited and farmed by local people.
The valley is known among local farmers who tend small gardens and fruit trees between the rocks. The caves carved into the tuff have been used for centuries as storage spaces, stables, or homes, and some are still used that way today.
The valley is reachable on foot from Göreme in just a few minutes and is well suited for a walk at any time of day. The ground can be uneven, so sturdy shoes and enough water are recommended, especially in the summer months.
Although the valley sits right next to Göreme, it sees fewer visitors than the nearby valleys and often offers quieter paths. The mix of rocks, vines, and caves gives a good sense of how the Cappadocian landscape has looked and been used for centuries.
