The Museo Casa natale Salvatore Quasimodo is a museum in Modica, Sicily, set inside the house where the poet Salvatore Quasimodo was born. It displays his reconstructed Milan study, his original bedroom, personal belongings, signed photographs, and special editions of his writings.
Salvatore Quasimodo was born in this house in Modica on August 20, 1901, and went on to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1959. The house was later turned into a museum and expanded in December 2016 with two new rooms.
The museum welcomes visitors into the preserved rooms of the house, including a reading room with chairs where anyone can sit and browse Quasimodo's works. A multimedia area near the entrance shows footage of the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm.
The museum is run by the Proserpina association, and opening hours vary by season and may change on public holidays. Booking ahead is recommended for groups, and it is worth checking current hours before visiting.
The study on display was not originally in this house but comes from Quasimodo's apartment in Milan, where he spent most of his adult life. It was brought to Modica so visitors could see the actual space where he worked and wrote.
