The Safranbolu City History Museum is a history museum housed in an Ottoman building dating from 1904 to 1906, located in the center of Safranbolu, Turkey. It spans three floors and displays objects related to traditional trades, clothing, local crafts, and everyday life from past centuries.
The building was constructed in the early 20th century as a government center, housing military, civil, and judicial offices for the region. After a fire in 1976 left it unused for decades, it was restored and opened as a museum in 2007.
The museum sits in the heart of Safranbolu's old town and is easy to reach on foot from the historic center. Combining a visit here with a walk through the surrounding old streets works well, since everything is close together.
One of the most notable displays shows how Yemeni shoes were made, flat leather shoes once worn by Ottoman soldiers and later used during the War of Independence. Animated displays in the museum also recreate how metalworkers forged armor and swords for the Ottoman army.
