Column of the Virgin Mary Immaculate in Kutná Hora

The Column of the Virgin Mary Immaculate is a Baroque monument located on Šultysova street, topped with a statue of Mary and flanked by four saints at its base. The structure features elaborate ornamentation and details that reflect the artistic style of early 18th century craftsmanship.

František Baugut constructed this memorial between 1713 and 1715 to honor over one thousand residents who died during a devastating plague epidemic. The monument stands as a testament to the tragic impact of the disease on the local population.

The column displays detailed relief sculptures depicting local mining activities, connecting the monument to the industrial heritage of Kutná Hora. These representations allow visitors to see the economic importance of mining in the city's past.

The monument retains its original structure in central Kutná Hora near St Barbara's Church and the Sedlec Ossuary. Its central location makes it easy to visit alongside other historic sites in the town.
