Blaník

Blaník is a granite mountain with an elevation of 638 meters and features two distinct peaks within the Středočeská pahorkatina highland region. A wooden lookout tower built in 1941 stands at the summit, offering panoramic views across Central Bohemia.

A circular hillfort with two rows of stone walls was constructed at the summit during the 5th century BC, with remnants still visible today. This ancient fortification shows that the mountain served as an important defensive position in prehistoric times.

Blaník holds deep roots in Czech mythology, with local legend telling of sleeping knights sheltered within the mountain, ready to defend the land. Visitors walking the summit today can feel the connection to these stories that have shaped how locals view this place.

The 30-meter wooden lookout tower features 107 steps and provides straightforward access from the summit for visitors of most fitness levels. The climb takes just a few minutes, making it feasible even for those with limited time to spend on the mountain.

A foundation stone from this mountain was placed in Prague's National Theatre as a symbol of Czech national identity. This unusual historical connection links the mountain directly to one of the nation's most important cultural buildings.
