Velký Blaník

Velký Blaník is a 638-meter mountain located within a protected nature reserve with a wooden observation tower at its summit. The tower offers views extending toward Prague's outer areas when weather permits clear visibility.

The site was inhabited in prehistoric times with a hillfort featuring two concentric stone ramparts, dating to the 6th-5th centuries BC. This early settlement indicates the location held strategic importance for ancient communities living in the region.

The mountain features prominently in Czech folklore as a legendary refuge for knights who are said to awaken and defend Bohemia in times of need. This tale shapes how locals view and relate to the place today.

The mountain is accessible via a well-marked trail suitable for visitors of varying fitness levels. Bring water and snacks before starting your climb, as amenities at the summit are limited.

Since 1999 the observation tower has featured a dedicated space called the altar mensa where couples can hold wedding ceremonies. This unusual setting combines natural scenery, local legend, and personal milestones in an unexpected way.
