Castle Libštejn

Castle Libštejn is a Gothic castle ruin located on a hillside near the Berounka River, with thick stone walls and remnants of medieval fortification structures visible throughout the grounds. The remains reveal the layout of a strategic hilltop fortress with preserved wall sections and foundations.

The fortress was constructed during the medieval period as a strategic stronghold in the Plzeň Region, controlling an important territory in this area. It gradually fell into decay over the following centuries, leaving only its stone structures standing today.

The site holds recognition as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1964, displaying Gothic stone walls that reflect the medieval building traditions of this region. Visitors can observe the architectural features that were typical for fortifications of that era and area.

The walk to the ruins follows a forest trail taking about 30 minutes from the designated parking area, with signs marking the route throughout. The path winds through woodland and gentle slopes, so comfortable footwear is recommended.

The site connects to a seating area and camping ground near a creek, allowing visitors to spend extended time exploring the medieval remains and surrounding woodland together. This setup creates a space where people can combine sightseeing with outdoor leisure.
