Barrandov, Residential district in Hlubočepy, Czech Republic

Barrandov is a residential neighborhood in western Prague that spreads along rock formations above the Vltava River. The district combines older villa quarters with modern housing developments, creating a mix of different architectural styles.

The neighborhood was named in 1928 to honor French geologist Joachim Barrande, who studied the fossil-rich rocks of this region. This naming connected the local landscape to the scientific history of the area.

The neighborhood is home to one of Europe's largest film studios, where Czech movies and television productions have been made for many decades. This facility has shaped the work of countless artists and technicians, remaining a vital center for the country's film industry.

A tram line connects the neighborhood to central Prague, making it easy to reach from the city center. The area is accessible on foot and offers good connections for exploring the wider district.

The neighborhood is home to two major national television broadcasters that produce content from studios located here. This role in media production gives the area unusual importance within Prague's broader landscape.
