Rakovník, District town in Central Bohemian Region, Czech Republic
Rakovník is a district town in the Central Bohemian Region, located at roughly 322 meters elevation. The town features Husovo Square, one of the longest town squares in the country, surrounded by rolling terrain.
The town received its first written mention in 1252 and grew over centuries as a regional center. The nearby Křivoklát castle served as an important administrative seat for surrounding areas during medieval times.
The former synagogue now houses the Václav Rabas Gallery, where art exhibitions and performances take place regularly. This transformation shows how historic buildings continue to serve as centers for creative expression in the town.
The town is easily reached by train as a railway terminus with connections to Prague and Kladno. Visitors will find multiple transport options to explore the surrounding region and reach nearby destinations.
The Rakovnický stream flows through the town center and is part of the water system of the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area. This waterway shapes the natural surroundings and links the town to the broader green landscape.
