Vinohrady Theatre, Theatre building in Vinohrady, Czech Republic.
Vinohrady Theatre is a performance venue in the Vinohrady district of Prague that blends Renaissance Revival forms with Art Nouveau touches. Its facade displays ornate detail, monumental sculptures, and decorative elements that echo the style of its time.
Alois Čenský designed the building in 1905, when Renaissance Revival and Art Nouveau were woven together in architecture. It opened in January 1907, marking the start of its role in Prague's cultural life.
The venue stages classic Czech drama, modern productions, and works by contemporary authors that attract a broad audience from the neighborhood and beyond. Visitors experience performances in a space that still carries the feel of opening nights from the early 20th century.
The box office opens Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 1 PM to 6 PM, and booking ahead is recommended. The main auditorium has clear sightlines, and aisles are wide enough for visitors with limited mobility, though some areas involve steps.
Two colossal statues on the main facade stand roughly 7 meters (23 feet) tall each and weigh around 36 tons together. They depict Bravery and Truth, dominating the entrance area.
