Krásný Buk Castle

Krásný Buk is a medieval castle ruin located in the town of Krásná Lípa near the Bohemian border region. Stone walls, circular ramparts, and a deep defensive moat are still visible, showing the layout of the former fortress.

The castle was founded in medieval times and passed to King John of Luxembourg in 1319 from its previous owner, the nobleman Henry of Leipa. This shift in ownership reflected larger changes in regional power and authority during the 1300s.

The name comes from a large beech tree that once grew nearby and served as a landmark for travelers passing through the region. This connection to nature remains visible in how the ruins blend into the surrounding forests today.

The ruins can be reached via marked hiking trails that wind through the surrounding landscape. Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven and paths become slippery, especially after rain.

Excavations in the 1800s uncovered pottery, horseshoes, and a Roman coin from Emperor Hadrian's era, revealing that the site was inhabited long before the fortress was built. These finds suggest the area held importance across different periods of history.
