Stříbro

Stříbro is a town in Tachov District situated on a rocky promontory above the Mže River at about 399 meters elevation. It features medieval walls, a Renaissance bridge from 1555, and buildings that shape its historic character.

The town received city rights in 1263 and became a major silver mining center along a key trade route between Prague and Nuremberg. This mineral wealth shaped its economic importance for centuries.

The Gothic synagogue and Jewish Gate stand in the old town, reflecting how the place attracted different communities as a trading hub. Visitors can still see how Jewish life became woven into the daily fabric of this community.

An open-air museum displays equipment from silver and lead mining operations, showing visitors how extraction work functioned in earlier times. The museum offers insight into the mining techniques that once sustained the economy.
