Štola Prokop

Štola Prokop is a mining tunnel in Stříbro that extends around 700 meters underground and contains multiple chambers and passages. The site reveals silver extraction methods through its shafts, water channels, and the traces left by generations of miners.

The tunnel system was first documented in 1513 and served mainly to drain silver mining operations until 1966. Work ceased when economic factors made mining in this region no longer profitable.

Between 1796 and 1820, engineers built a water-powered drainage wheel system that moved water through a 380-meter channel. This wheel was a technical achievement of its era and helped keep the deeper tunnels dry for mining work.
