The fortress was built in the 13th century by the Buzice family as a Gothic structure. It was later transformed into a Renaissance château under the ownership of Georg Lokšan.

The Early Baroque chapel houses a working Rococo organ from 1796 crafted by Vojtěch Schreier of Kuks. This musical instrument continues to be played during visits as a special feature for guests.
