Lipnice nad Sázavou, Medieval castle ruin in Vysočina Region, Czech Republic.
Lipnice nad Sázavou is a castle ruin positioned on a rocky hilltop between two elevations in the Vysočina Region. The main structure is the Samson tower, approximately 40 meters high, equipped with wooden stairs and an observation platform.
The castle was founded in 1310 and passed through the hands of different noble families over generations. A devastating fire in 1869 damaged much of the structure and created the ruins seen today.
The Chapel of Saint Lawrence on the grounds displays architectural layers from different periods, showing how building styles evolved and changed hands over time.
Access to the tower is through wooden stairs that vary in accessibility depending on the season and weather conditions. Visitors should expect uneven paths and rough terrain on the grounds and wear sturdy footwear.
The Samson tower offers views across the surrounding mountains and the Sázava valley on clear days. The solid construction has survived since its creation despite the 1869 fire and shows the resilience of medieval building methods.
