Nóve Hrady Castle

Nove Hrady Castle is a Gothic fortress in southern Bohemia with thick stone walls and multiple towers built over several centuries. The structure shows layers of construction from different periods, with additions and modifications visible throughout the buildings.

The fortress was founded in the second half of the 13th century by the Lords of Hradec and became a key military stronghold in the region. It played an important role in regional conflicts and remained in use through the Renaissance period.

The castle displays weapons and household items that reveal how Czech nobles lived and what they used daily. You can walk through rooms arranged to show the practical side of life in a medieval fortress.

Wear comfortable shoes because paths include cobblestones and stairs, especially in older sections of the complex. Guided tours are available to help you navigate the layout and understand the different areas.

The fortress survived a gunpowder explosion in 1573 that damaged sections of the complex and required extensive repairs. This destructive event led to renovations by Italian architects who modernized parts of the structure.
