Stagnov, castle
Stagnov is a castle ruin near Rychtářov positioned on a hillside overlooking a river valley. The remains include fragments of stone walls, ditches, and foundations that reveal how medieval structures were built.
The castle was built in the late 13th century as part of a fortified complex in the Dědice region. It first appears in written records in 1381 and remained occupied until the 15th century, when it was abandoned during the Hussite wars.
The name Stagnov connects to early lords whose names appear in old records, including Milotas, Albert, and Dietrich Stange. This link to local heritage makes the site an important part of the region's story.
The ruin is located in a quiet village easily reached by car with minimal crowds. Bring your own water and snacks, wear comfortable shoes, and prepare for uneven terrain.
Archaeological excavations in 1924 uncovered portions of the original walls and earthworks. These discoveries help reveal how the castle was constructed and what it originally looked like.
