Bílá Hora, Historic hill in Ruzyně district, Czech Republic
Bílá Hora is a hill on Prague's western side rising to about 379 meters and shaping the landscape of the surrounding area. The Star Summer Palace stands at its summit and is the dominant building of this location.
In November 1620, a decisive battle occurred here where Catholic troops defeated Protestant Bohemian forces. This event reshaped the political and religious direction of the region for centuries to come.
The Star Summer Palace displays Renaissance stucco decorations showing hunting scenes and classical figures that visitors can still observe today. These ornaments reflect the tastes of the wealthy families who once occupied this elevated residence.
The hill is most easily reached by tram number 22 from Prague's city center to the final stop. From there, several marked paths lead to the summit and to the various buildings on the grounds.
The grounds also contain a chapel from the early 18th century with elaborate frescos by renowned artists of that era. These frescos display craftsmanship that many visitors overlook when focusing on the main buildings.
