Water reservoir Kořensko, body of water near the village of Neznašov, South Bohemian Region, Czechia
The water reservoir Kořensko is a dam on the Vltava River near Chrášťany with a movable concrete weir and two Kaplan turbines for power generation. The facility was completed in 1991 and regulates water flow using hydraulically controlled gates across a weir approximately 89 meters long.
The Kořensko dam was built between 1986 and 1991 as a measure to manage the thermal water discharge from the Temelín nuclear power plant. Since its opening, it has played a central role in stabilizing water flow in the Vltava River.
The name Kořensko reflects its role as a water control structure on the Vltava River serving the broader region. Today, visitors walk along the shore and can observe how the calm water surface mirrors the surrounding landscape, making it a place where water management and nature coexist.
Access to the dam is easy via roads with parking nearby, and the site is suitable for families, fishermen, and walkers. The surrounding landscape offers various paths for walking and relaxing, especially during warmer months.
A navigation lock on the left bank allows ships up to 300 tons capacity to pass through the dam, enabling regular boat traffic since opening in 2000. This infrastructure connects river transport functions with modern hydroelectric regulation.
