Karlova Koruna Chateau, Baroque chateau in Chlumec nad Cidlinou, Czech Republic.
Karlova Koruna is a baroque residence in Chlumec nad Cidlinou set on a hilltop with three single-story wings arranged around a circular central hall. The layout resembles a crown shape, giving the building a distinctive and unusual appearance.
The residence was designed between 1721 and 1723 for Franz Ferdinand Kinsky by architects Jan Santini Aichel and František Maxmilián Kaňka. The two created an innovative building that would represent the family for generations to come.
The building takes its name to honor Emperor Charles VI Habsburg's coronation as King of Bohemia. This choice reflects how the family who lived here connected their home to that important moment.
The building is accessible from April through October and offers tours on several days of the week. Visitors should check which days are available ahead of time to plan their visit.
The central cylindrical hall rises through three floors without needing connecting passages to the surrounding wings. This was a remarkable structural accomplishment for its time.
