Sychrov Castle

Sychrov Castle is a Neo-Gothic residence in the Bohemian landscape with a pink exterior and lavishly decorated interiors filled with artworks and furnishings. The building was expanded and refined over time, with rooms arranged to showcase its important portrait collection.

The building began as a Baroque structure but underwent major transformation after the Rohan family acquired it in 1820 and rebuilt it in the Neo-Gothic style. This renovation reflected the family's desire to create a new home that honored both French heritage and their adopted Central European setting.

The castle displays French artistic traditions through its collections and decoration, reflecting the Rohan family's connections to European noble circles. The rooms tell of aristocratic tastes and how French families lived during the 1800s.

Guided tours help visitors understand the interiors and collections most thoroughly, as the rooms contain many detailed artworks and furnishings worth exploring. Surrounding grounds include a large English-style park with walking paths and planted areas for spending time outdoors.

The Czech composer Antonín Dvořák visited regularly and drew musical inspiration from the castle and its surroundings. His connection with the family added an important musical dimension to the place's history.
